Archipelago

Archipelago is a Filipino rock band formed in early 2008 and played its first gig on April 11, 2008, at Club Dredd in Eastwood City, Philippines.

The name Archipelago was chosen as all four members hail from the Philippine Archipelago. This attempt at a somewhat patriotic—though decidedly unspecific—band name later took on a new layer of meaning to describe the band’s sound as one that should be not just for Filipinos but for the rest of the world as well. Besides, as bassist Chad Rialp so eloquently puts it: “The world is, at a distance, an Archipelago.”

Do As Infinity

Do As Infinity is a popular Japanese band which debuted on September 29, 1999 with the release of their first single, “Tangerine Dream”. Their name is sometimes abbreviated as D.A.I., revealing that Do As Infinity was named after the band’s guitarist and composer, Dai Nagao. With the release of their A-side compilation album Do the A-side, Do As Infinity disbanded on September 29, 2005, after a career which spanned six years, six albums, twenty singles, seven compilation albums and eight live DVDs. The band reformed on September 29, 2008, and had their first new single release, “∞1″ in June 2009.

Their first album, Break of Dawn, debuted on number three on the Oricon album charts in March of the same year, only a month after “Yesterday & Today”. They continued to make public appearances and do numerous live performances all over Japan. In August of that year, the band released the single “Rumble Fish”, which was used as the theme song for the hit movie Kamen Gakuen; the cover of “Rumble Fish” was taken in Taiwan, and the trip provided the inspiration for “Shinjitsu no Uta”.

Sugarfree

Sugarfree is a popular pop-alternative group that was formed in 1999. Their sound is heavily influenced by the likes of Popsicle, Oasis, and Radiohead. The initial line up had Mitch Singson on drums. Singson left the band in August 2006 for personal reasons. Quisumbing immediately took place. It was a slow and onerous start for the band. They were signed to Viva Records but their album was shelved. By 2003, thanks to the help of Tracks Studio’s Angee Rozul, their freshman offering was picked up and released by EMI Philippines (now known as PolyEast Records).

Sugarfree has worked with a some of the Philippines’ premier record producers such as Angee Rozul and Rico Blanco for Sa Wakas (2003), Buddy Zabala and Raimund Marasigan (members of the Eraserheads) for Dramachine (2004), Robin Rivera (also an album producer of the Eraserheads) for Tala-Arawan (2006), and Buddy Zabala and "Sancho" Sanchez for "Mornings and Airports" (2009). These albums have produced more than a handful of hit songs. "Hari ng Sablay" and "Makita Kang Muli", in particular, are the songs that brought Sugarfree into every home.
