f(x) is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2009. The name is a play on the mathematical notation for function, with “f” signifying “flower” and “x” representing the female’s double X chromosome. The quintet consists of Victoria, Amber, Luna, Sulli, and Krystal.

JYJ

NEWS

NEWS, is a six-member Japanese musical group consisting of Keiichiro Koyama, Ryo Nishikido, Tomohisa Yamashita, Takahisa Masuda, Shigeaki Kato and Yuya Tegoshi. The group’s name is an acronym based on the cardinal directions (North, East, West, South) and the members locations. Formed in 2003 by Johnny Kitagawa as a nine member group under the label Johnny’s Entertainment, NEWS released a promotional single “NEWS Nippon”, which was used for the World Cup of Volleyball Championships. In 2004, Takahiro Moriuchi left the group and the remaining eight members released their debut single, “Kibō: Yell”, which debuted atop the Oricon charts.

AKB48

AKB48 is an all-female Japanese theater/idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto. Unlike other idol groups in Japan, AKB48 is theater-based and have their own theater in Akihabara (a district in Tokyo) where they perform once every weekday, and more than once on both Saturday and Sunday. The theater is set up on the 8th floor of Don Quijote. Some of the title songs released as a single have been made a tie-in song for a television show or a television advertisement. The name derives from a shortened, Romanized representation of ‘Akihabara’.
