Girls’ Generation in Asia Song Fest

Girls’ Generation and Super Junior will take part in the Asia Song Festival to be held in Seoul in October, representing South Korea.

The festival, the sixth of its kind this year, will draw Asian pop groups and singers from nine countries in Asia including South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. It will begin at 6 p.m. at Sangam World Cup Stadium in northwestern Seoul.

Battle of Girl Groups Under Way

The local pop scene is sizzling with an array of girl groups, both old and new, and the competition is expected to heat up with each band presenting distinctive sounds, fashion and personalities.

Reigning Groups

Girls’ Generation and the Wonder Girls have been the top girl groups for the past two years, but now their thrones are starting to look a bit shaky as new groups loaded with new tricks have appeared.

The nine-member Girls’ Generation, of SM Entertainment, released their new album “Genie” in June, donning a marine and military style for their new look. They have been topping charts on Internet music Web sites and music programs aired on television.

Wonder Girls Perform for US First Lady, Daughters

The Wonder Girls can now add the ladies of the White House family to their list of fans who have seen them live.
Producer Park Jin-young announced the attendance via his Twitter feed, which he uses to keep fans updated of the band’s progress in North America.

“It has been confirmed that first lady Michelle Obama and her two daughters came to see the performance of Wonder Girls tonight,” Park wrote. “The Wonder Girls gave them their best show,” he added.

2NE1 Comes Out on Top at Music Bank

The “Female Big Bang,” 2NE1, rose to stardom Friday by coming out on top at the “Music Bank” on KBS-TV.

The girl band took first place with “I don’t care,” the flagship song of its first mini-album, beating Girls’ Generation and Lee Seung-gi.

People’s enthusiasm with the four-member group proved strong as it shot to top only one week after appearing at the KBS music program.

'Genie' Tops Music Bank

“Genie” a new song released by Girls’ Generation two weeks ago, topped KBS-TV’s Music Bank Friday evening.
The flagship song of the girl group’s second mini-album competed with songs from 4minute and Seo Tae-ji.

“Genie” has swept various online music charts since its release June 25. It took just two weeks for Girls’ Generation, one of South Korea’s pop groups, to return to top both online and offline, after months of absence.
