Million Star auditions in Singapore

FREELANCE entertainer Steven Lim might be unknown to Taiwanese Million Star judges Ian Chen and Roger Cheng, but the 35-year-old drew the loudest cheers from onlookers at the recent audition for Taiwan’s top-rated singing contest at City Square Mall.

It seems that seven years after his infamous appearance at the very first televised episode of Singapore Idol, Lim is still keen to give pop stardom a shot. Although he did not strip down to his yellow swimming trunks again at the singing contest’s outdoor audition, he still succeeded in providing some comic relief with his dramatic rendition of David Huang’s You Got Me Drunk.

Lim was one of the 372 hopefuls who showed up at the audition. But in the end, it was 17-year-old student Connie Zhu, 20-year-old student Ivan Sim, 22-year-old make-up artist and part-time singer Crystal Wong, 24-year-old electrician Lok Wei Hung and 31-year-old music instructor Zoey Eu who were given the ticket to regional stardom.

Formerly known as One Million Star, the much-followed singing contest has launched the careers of a long list of young Mandopop singers like Jam Hsiao, Yoga Lin, Anthony Neely, Lin Yu Chun, Singapore’s Huang Jing Lun, and most recently, Malaysia’s Lee Kar Wei.

Lee was discovered at the very same venue during the show’s audition in Singapore last July, before she went on to claim the top prize in Season Seven.

RazorTV caught up with Lee and spoke to the five selected contestants before they head to Taipei for the upcoming competition. Check out if they are star material.
