Rescheduled dates for Taeyang’s concerts announced

Idol group Big Bang singer Taeyang’s first solo concert has been rescheduled for September 25 and 26, according to his agency YG Entertainment’s CEO Yang Hyun-suk on Tuesday.

The concert, originally set for September 4 and 5, had been postponed “for more time to perfect things for the show” with the singer being busy with promotional work in Japan and shooting a commercial with his five-man band.

Kara becomes first Asian girl group to rank in Oricon’s top 5

Korean female idols Kara will become the first Asian girl group to place in the top 10 on Japan’s prestigious Oricon chart, according to Japanese publication Oricon Style on Tuesday.

Oricon Style reported that the Oricon chart will announce on August 23 that Kara will place at No. 5 on its weekly singles chart, making them the first Asia girl group to rank in the top 10.

Open auditions to be held for new Asian girl group

FarWest Entertainment — a production company helmed by former Walt Disney Company (Asia Pacific) president Jon Niermann — and a group of Asian partners are behind a fledgling girl band enterprise called “Project Lotus.”

The concept behind “Project Lotus” is simple.

Get five talented girls from Korea, Japan, China, India and the Philippines. Pair them up with Grammy Award-winning producers Eliot Kennedy and Brian Grant. Give them songs composed by prominent song writers like Take That’s Gary Barlow. Get it all down on film and drop it on the world.

Rainie Yang

Rainie Yang (traditional Chinese: 楊丞琳; simplified Chinese: 杨丞琳; pinyin: Yáng Chénglín; born June 4, 1984) is a popular Taiwanese singer, actress, and talk show host.

She started acting when she was 14-years-old, appearing in movies and commercials in Hong Kong. At 15, she auditioned for a girl band to be launched by BMG Records called “4 in Love” and passed with flying colors. From then on, she was called “Rainie” to fit in with the weather-based named girls of the group; she was originally called Lily in the industry. She moved to Taiwan and pursued her acting career as she lived with her co-band members under one roof. She starred in various dramas starting with the mega blockbuster Meteor Garden where she played a supporting, yet pivotal role as the cute Xiao You (Hana Yori Dango’s “Yuki” Chinese counterpart).

Kim Yubin is a member of Korean Girl Band Wonder Girls, born October 4, 1998, She’s the rapper of the group, Yubin wrote the rap for her part in Kim Bum Soo’s song.

She made a cameo in 2PM’s 10 Points out of 10 music video and in MBC’s sitcom, ‘That Person Is Coming’. She was featured in Chun G’s song ‘Weak Man’ and Kim Bum Soo’s song, ‘Do You Know That’. Also featured on Andy’s first album.

Yoobin was trained under Good Entertainment for about two years before she was chosen to replace former member Hyun Ah.

Hyoyeon was BoA’s silhouette during a dance break in BoA’s “Over the Top” performance in MKMF 2005.

Hyoyeon once attended a hip hop dance school that specializes in waving, popping, locking, and animation. Prior to her debut, Hyoyeon traveled to Beijing, China in 2004 with Super Junior’s Siwon to learn Mandarin and more about Chinese culture.

Girls’ Generation

Girls’ Generation (Hangul: 소녀시대; Hanja: 少女時代) is a South Korean nine-member girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. Its members include (in order of official announcement) Yoona, Tiffany, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Taeyeon (the leader) , Jessica, and Sunny. International Girls’ Generation fans usually refer to the group as SNSD, the acronym of the group’s Korean name So Nyeo Shi Dae. Many of the members had already pursued entertainment careers before the group’s debut through music videos, commercials, and others. Their official fanclub is known as S♡NE (소원, soweon), named after a song from their debut single. Their official ballon color is pastel rose pink and while other idols have round shaped balloons, Girls’ Generation balloons are heart shaped to match their fanclub name.

The group has sold over 100,000 copies each of their first three albums, a first for female groups in South Korea.

The local pop scene is sizzling with an array of girl groups, both old and new, and the competition is expected to heat up with each band presenting distinctive sounds, fashion and personalities.

Girls’ Generation and the Wonder Girls have been the top girl groups for the past two years, but now their thrones are starting to look a bit shaky as new groups loaded with new tricks have appeared.

The nine-member Girls’ Generation, of SM Entertainment, released their new album “Genie” in June, donning a marine and military style for their new look. They have been topping charts on Internet music Web sites and music programs aired on television.

2NE1 Comes Out on Top at Music Bank

The “Female Big Bang,” 2NE1, rose to stardom Friday by coming out on top at the “Music Bank” on KBS-TV.

The girl band took first place with “I don’t care,” the flagship song of its first mini-album, beating Girls’ Generation and Lee Seung-gi.

People’s enthusiasm with the four-member group proved strong as it shot to top only one week after appearing at the KBS music program.
