Misia

Misia, born on July 7, 1978, in Fukuoka, Fukuoka, Japan, is a Japanese R&B singer. Her real name is Misaki, not to be mistaken with the actress Misaki Itō. Her current record label is BMG Japan and she belongs to Rhythmedia management company. She debuted on February 21, 1998, with the song “Tsutsumikomu Yō ni…,” and is most known for her hit song “Everything,” which sold roughly 1.9 million copies.

MISIA joins top artists for David Foster album

Singer MISIA (32) is joining the likes of Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion. Her new song “Life in Harmony” is being produced by famous Canadian music producer David Foster (60), and it will be included on Foster’s upcoming compilation album “Love, Again,” which goes on sale in Japan on September 15.

Utada’s blog receives 1 million views in 24 hours

TOKYO — Singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada, 27, announced on her official blog at 8 p.m. last Monday that she will suspend her musical activities for an indefinite period starting next year. Within the next 24 hours, access to her blog surpassed 1 million views.

Open auditions to be held for new Asian girl group

FarWest Entertainment — a production company helmed by former Walt Disney Company (Asia Pacific) president Jon Niermann — and a group of Asian partners are behind a fledgling girl band enterprise called “Project Lotus.”

The concept behind “Project Lotus” is simple.

Get five talented girls from Korea, Japan, China, India and the Philippines. Pair them up with Grammy Award-winning producers Eliot Kennedy and Brian Grant. Give them songs composed by prominent song writers like Take That’s Gary Barlow. Get it all down on film and drop it on the world.

Arashi

Arashi is a Japanese boy band formed under the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates, which announced the formation of the group on September 15, 1999 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

After releasing one studio album, one greatest hits album and six singles under the Pony Canyon record label, the group moved to the Johnny’s subsidiary label J Storm in 2001, which was initially set up for their succeeding releases. In 2008, nine years after their debut, their singles “Truth/Kaze no Mukō e” and “One Love” took the top two placings on the annual Oricon sales ranking, attesting to the group’s longevity in the Japanese music scene in spite of their idol group image.

Ringo Shiina

Ringo Shiina , born Yumiko Shiina, is a Japanese singer-songwriter born on November 25, 1978. She works both as a solo musician and singer as well as a member of the band Tokyo Jihen.

On the Nekoyanagi Line website, she described herself as “Shinjuku-kei Jisaku-Jien-ya (新宿系自作自演屋, a person who performs in her own Shinjuku-style play?)”. She currently promotes herself as singer of light music and mood-songs, She was ranked number 36 in a list of Japan’s top 100 musicians provided by HMV in 2003.

Keisuke Kuwata

Keisuke Kuwata (born February 26, 1956) has gained fame as a Japanese multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and frontman for the Southern All-Stars.

Kuwata is known for his willingness to experiment with differing genres of Western music as well as J-pop music in his native Japan. As a musician, Kuwata performs primarily as lead guitarist and vocalist, although he has experimented with playing in a variety of positions, and released one album in which he played every instrument on the record. Kuwata is ranked #12 in a list of the top 100 musicians in Japan in 2006.
