4minute (Korean: 포미닛) is a South Korean girl group created by Cube Entertainment, subsidiary of JYP Entertainment. The leader of the group is Ji Hyun.

4minute was announced in May 2009, along with two of the groups members, Kim Hyuna and Nam JiHyun. Although JiHyun is known as the leader, many singing parts and centered dancing roles belong to Hyuna. On June 11, 2009, the silhouette teaser video was released online, along with their official website. The remaining three members identities were kept secret until June 12. On June 15, 2009, their debut single “Hot Issue” was released along with another teaser video and the profiles for each group member. Within hours of the song release, it quickly climbed onto top five within various digital music charts such as Cyworld, Bugs, Soribada, and Mnet.

2NE1 (Korean: 투 애니원; pronounced “to anyone” or “twenty-one”) is a South Korean girl group created by YG Entertainment. First appearing in a Cyon commercial campaign with Big Bang for LG Telecom, their debut single “Fire” was released on May 6, 2009.

Wonder Girls

The Wonder Girls (Korean: 원더걸스) are a South Korean girl group. They are produced by singer-songwriter Park Jin-Young and are signed to his talent agency, JYP Entertainment. Each of the five original members were selected through auditions. Debuting in early 2007, they became popular in the fall of that year with the song “Tell Me.”

They have scored three consecutive #1 hit singles: “Tell Me”, “So Hot”, and “Nobody”. In 2008, they won two Daesangs (“Artist of the Year” Awards).

Kim Taeyeon

Kim Taeyeon 01Kim Taeyeon (Hangul 김태연; Hanja 金泰姸), known officially as Taeyeon, was born on March 9, 1989. She is a South Korean singer, known for being the leader of 9-member girl group Girls’ Generation (소녀시대), formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. Taeyeon and the other eight members of her group debuted on July 19, 2007. She has since ventured out into DJ-ing and reality-variety shows, along with various solo singles.

Taeyeon was born in the city of Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. She graduated Jeonju High School of Art on February 5, 2008. Taeyeon, like the rest of her group, was professionally trained in singing and dancing. Taeyeon was discovered in the 2004 8th Annual Best Contest winning first place in the contest. In total, Taeyeon was trained for approximately three years. Her father owns a spectacle shop.

Girls’ Generation

Girls’ Generation (Hangul: 소녀시대; Hanja: 少女時代) is a South Korean nine-member girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. Its members include (in order of official announcement) Yoona, Tiffany, Yuri, Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, Taeyeon (the leader) , Jessica, and Sunny. International Girls’ Generation fans usually refer to the group as SNSD, the acronym of the group’s Korean name So Nyeo Shi Dae. Many of the members had already pursued entertainment careers before the group’s debut through music videos, commercials, and others. Their official fanclub is known as S♡NE (소원, soweon), named after a song from their debut single. Their official ballon color is pastel rose pink and while other idols have round shaped balloons, Girls’ Generation balloons are heart shaped to match their fanclub name.

The group has sold over 100,000 copies each of their first three albums, a first for female groups in South Korea.

'Genie' Tops Music Bank

“Genie” a new song released by Girls’ Generation two weeks ago, topped KBS-TV’s Music Bank Friday evening.
The flagship song of the girl group’s second mini-album competed with songs from 4minute and Seo Tae-ji.

“Genie” has swept various online music charts since its release June 25. It took just two weeks for Girls’ Generation, one of South Korea’s pop groups, to return to top both online and offline, after months of absence.
