Kara becomes first Asian girl group to rank in Oricon’s top 5

Korean female idols Kara will become the first Asian girl group to place in the top 10 on Japan’s prestigious Oricon chart, according to Japanese publication Oricon Style on Tuesday.

Oricon Style reported that the Oricon chart will announce on August 23 that Kara will place at No. 5 on its weekly singles chart, making them the first Asia girl group to rank in the top 10.

Aaron Yan is a Taiwanese singer, commercial model and actor. He is currently the youngest member of the boy band Fahrenheit.

Wu Geng Lin Aaron (simplified Chinese: 吴庚霖; traditional Chinese: 吳庚霖; pinyin: Wú Gēnglín) was born on November 20, 1985 in Taiwan.

At a young age, his family moved to Connecticut, U.S., where he stayed for his primary school education for about five years. He then moved back to Taiwan for further education.

Calvin Chen

Calvin Chen 03Calvin Chen Yi Ru is a Taiwanese singer and actor. He is currently a member of the boy band Fahrenheit. His stage name is a homophone of his birth name.

Calvin Chen was born on November 10, 1980, in Taiwan. His stage name is actually a homophone of his birth name. After graduating from Jianguo High School, one of the top high schools in Taiwan, he further pursued his college education in Canada at Simon Fraser University. He completed his masters degree in Economics at the University of Victoria. He then further continued his life in Canada by joining a pageant-like competition (Sunshine Boyz) in Vancouver, where he won first place with a free ticket to Taiwan and a contract with a music company, as well as a role in a drama. He is currently a student at National Chengchi University, studying Public Finance.

Yao Yao 01Guo Shu Yao, or just “Yao yao” is a Taiwanese Singer, Yao-yao has captured the hearts of boys with her baby face and ample cleavage since her appearance in a series of suggestive TV commercials for an online game. Her phenomenal popularity paved the way for the former teen model to break into pop music.

Her debut album , entitled “Love’s Embrace” (愛的抱抱) was the No. 1 selling record in Taiwan on October 2009,  beating out other famous singers including local star Angela Chang (張韶涵) and Hong Kong’s Eason Chan (陳奕迅).

Wilber Pan (born 6 August 1980), also known as Will Pan, is an American-born Taiwanese singer, rapper and drama actor, who started his career as a host of Channel V programs.

Pan was raised in West Virginia, United States and later moved to Taiwan at the age of seven. He attended Taipei American School and graduated in 1999. Because of his multicultural background, he is fluent in both Mandarin and English. However, Pan is unable to read and write Chinese. Before launching his acting and singing career, he attended Cal Poly Pomona in the United States, but left before graduating to pursue an offer from Channel V. He still retains his dual citizenship in the U.S.A. and Republic of China to avoid the mandatory military duty in Taiwan.

Rainie Yang

Rainie Yang (traditional Chinese: 楊丞琳; simplified Chinese: 杨丞琳; pinyin: Yáng Chénglín; born June 4, 1984) is a popular Taiwanese singer, actress, and talk show host.

She started acting when she was 14-years-old, appearing in movies and commercials in Hong Kong. At 15, she auditioned for a girl band to be launched by BMG Records called “4 in Love” and passed with flying colors. From then on, she was called “Rainie” to fit in with the weather-based named girls of the group; she was originally called Lily in the industry. She moved to Taiwan and pursued her acting career as she lived with her co-band members under one roof. She starred in various dramas starting with the mega blockbuster Meteor Garden where she played a supporting, yet pivotal role as the cute Xiao You (Hana Yori Dango’s “Yuki” Chinese counterpart).

Jerry Yan (Chinese: 言承旭; pinyin: Yán Chéngxù); born January 1, 1977) is an actor and a member of Taiwanese boy band JVKV (formerly F4). His birth name is Liao Yangzhen (Chinese: 廖洋震; pinyin: Liào Yángzhèn).

He was the lead actor in the popular Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden and its sequel, Meteor Garden II, which made him a popular idol among teenage girls and elder women alike, not only in Taiwan, Asia and now even the world.

In summer 2007, this young talented singer rose to fame with only three brief appearances in the first season of CTV’s 中視 star search show,”One Million Star 超級星光大道”, which is a singing competition reality show similar to American Idol. A self-taught player of numerous music instruments, Hsiao is known for his wide vocal ranges, unique singing style, diverse music genres, and astounding charisma in his live performance.
